Where used car money actually goes

Buyers in Pakistan tend to spend their attention on the parts of a purchase that are visible — the paint, the interior, the test drive — and very little on the parts that cost the most when they go wrong. In practice, the two expensive failure modes are undisclosed accident repair and incomplete paperwork, and neither shows up in a walk around the car.

Paperwork is the worse of the two, because it is often unfixable. A mechanical fault is a negotiation. A tampered chassis number, an unresolved bank lease or a transfer that was never recorded can leave you with a car you cannot legally sell, and in some cases cannot keep. That is why the verification and ownership transfer guides come first here, ahead of anything about choosing a model.

The tax side is the other place money quietly disappears. Filer status alone changes the income tax collected with token tax by PKR 20,000 a year on the same vehicle, and the 10% rebate for paying before 31 August is routinely missed. Neither requires any negotiation — just knowing they exist.

How these guides are sourced

Fee and tax figures come from the relevant government department's own published schedules — principally the Punjab Excise & Taxation Department — and are linked at the foot of each guide so you can check them yourself. Every guide carries the date its figures were last verified.

Government rates change with provincial budgets, and search results for these topics are dominated by sites that copy figures from each other without dating them. Confirm the current amount with the department before you pay anything, and treat any undated figure — here or elsewhere — with suspicion.
